Western Australia’s Justice Division says Corrective Companies’ Particular Operations Group officers have been despatched to quell the unrest at Acacia Jail in Wooroloo, on Perth’s outer fringes.

The union has criticised Serco, which runs the jail, blaming understaffing for the incident.

‘Acacia is WA’s largest jail and it’s already understaffed. However Serco has but to name in off-duty jail officers to bolster numbers throughout this riot,’ union secretary Andy Smith mentioned in a press release.

‘This case was solely predictable attributable to surprising staffing ranges and poor morale and has now hit boiling level.
